We cannot seem to get enough of this snow-less Winter. We walk and walk in the desolate woods exploring and discovering new paths that were once concealed by summery flora and cascading canopies of leaves. Despite two nights of heavy frost much still remains in my garden.
This morning I filled a vase with herbs and what nots still thriving...sage, oregano, peppermint, lavender, thyme, alpine strawberry [leaves, flowers, and fruits], flat leaf parsley, pineapple mint, and fuzzy weeds that look like caterpillars.

So here are the fantastic finds from that Estate Sale yesterday. They are antique metal type press numbers and letters. I spent well over an hour sifting and digging through boxes and piles of quite heavy cubes to find these sets. I worked with the nicest Kindergarten teacher while we tried to find our selections. Our hands were completely covered in the black ink of long ago.

On a lovely walk a few weeks ago I came across this monarch caterpillar. I gathered her up along with some fresh milkweed and carried her home in my bag. We watched her eat and metamorphosis into her chrysalis in a glass jug.

My heavy heart is full of sadness as I try to write this tribute to our Lilly. Last Friday afternoon, New Year's Eve Day, we said a final good bye to our Lilly Pye. We couldn't believe that we were ending the year this way. Deep breath. Things got so bad so fast for Lilly last Friday. Another deep breath. Our Vet helped us through with tears of her own.
